It’s spring. This season brings rain, blossoming flowers, and flourishing trees. If you are planning to sell your home, the conventional wisdom says it’s the best time to entice the prospective buyers with a great curb appeal.

One of the most important decisions that you need to make is whether to stage the house or sell it as-is. Deep cleaning your home is the most important step in the staging process. Before we discuss whether you should spring clean your home or not, let’s talk about a few things you will need to do if you go for this option:

  • In a broader sense, spring-cleaning may involve cosmetic repairs such as painting walls, replacing old curtains and fixing windows and doors.
  • Many old homes have popcorn ceilings, but buyers today don’t like them. You may want to replace this type of ceiling treatment and go for a modern one. The process is very time consuming.
  • You will likely need to hire professional cleaners to deep clean the floor, particularly if you have a tile or marble flooring. You will also need to steam clean all carpets and use a wood-cleaning product on hardwood floors.
  • In spring, landscaping is an essential part of cleaning and staging your home. You may want to hire professionals to mow the lawn, weed the flowerbeds, and prune the bushes.
  • You will need to get rid of all the clutter that you may have accumulated in your house over years.
  • Kitchens and bathrooms will command your special attention. You will need to deep clean these important parts of your house, repair appliances, paint the walls and replace hardware to make them look at their best.

How to sell your house if you do not want to spring-clean it

Needless to say, you will invest a lot of time and money on spring cleaning your home. But what if you don’t have enough time to take up the tedious responsibility of spring-cleaning? What should you do if you want to sell your home without cleaning it? Does it make sense?

Well it does in some cases, and you can sell your home as-is if you don’t want to spring clean. It can be a good option if you are hard-pressed to get the property off your hands quickly.

Selling your home as-is anyway makes sense because the investment of a lot of money and time on staging will usually balance out any increase in the value to a great extent. You should take into consideration your individual situation and the condition of the house when deciding whether you should spring clean or not.
